Tottenham fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern are awaiting next season with a lot of excitement, with the club looking to build upon a stellar campaign last season.
Vincent Janssen and Victor Wanyama have already been signed, adding significant depth to an already solid squad; with Pochettino no doubt looking to bulk out his squad with added quality.
Unfortunately, as our Landlord has been telling Tottenham fans; this does come along with a caveat – it means that some players will be forced to either fight for their place or move on.
Some of these players might not be fan favourites, but there are certain Tottenham stars that fans have always liked; but have just not lived up to expectations. And this could be the summer that they depart the London club.
Here are THREE Tottenham players that are fighting for their future…..
Ryan Mason
Last season was a hugely disappointing one for the English midfielder.
He looked like he was turning into a real player a year or two ago; but last season saw him revert back to having a bit part role in this Tottenham side.
He lost his place in the side due to the outstanding form of Eric Dier and Moussa Dembele, and never really looked set to regain it.
He hasn’t really contributed much in the rare oppurtunities that he has gotten, and he continues to suffer with injuries; meaning that Pochettino will likely feel that he cannot rely on him to anchor his midfield.
Whilst his departure would no doubt disappoint Tottenham fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern, it could be the only option if he does not prove himself this summer.
Nabir Bentaleb
The central midfielder has now found himself way down the pecking order at White Hart Lane.
Once a favourite under Tim Sherwood, the 21-year-old looks set to be ousted by Eric Dier and Mousa Dembele for another season.
The Lille-born midfielder is undoubtedly fighting for his future at the club.
Tom Carroll
Tom Carroll has gained the trust of Pochettino more so than any manager before him, but his future is still murky at best.
Last season was disappointing at best, having picked up just three goals and a total of zero assists; it is not looking good for the young midfielder.
His one highlight was his first league goal against Norwich, which even he looked surprised to score.
He is firmly behind Delli Alli and Christian Eriksen in the pecking order, and for what he has in technical ability – he simply lacks in stature. He size in many way makes him a liability in a league that deems strength so important.
He has a lot of talent and passion, but that isn’t enough when you lack the core qualities to play in the Premier League.
Simply put, last season proved that Carrol is not currently at the quality that you need to be a title contender; and if he does not work on his disadvantages over the next few weeks, his departure could just be a formality.
