These Man City fans want club to sign Tanguy Ndombele following 2-2 draw with Lyon

Manchester City battled to a 2-2 draw against Lyon last night in yet another immensely competitive encounter against the French giants.

The pre-match hype concerned City’s injury problems in central midfield and the prospect of a rare start for Phil Foden, but Pep Guardiola eventually opted against including the 18-year-old as Leroy Sane, Riyad Mahrez and Raheem Sterling all featured in the starting line-up.

The attacking line-up left Fernandinho stranded and helplessly overran in midfield at times, and City’s shortage in midfield happened to coincide with an exceptional performance from Lyon’s hot prospect and rumoured transfer target, Tanguy Ndombele.

Lyon’s box-to-box midfielder ran the game from the heart of midfield, balancing his defensive responsibility with a natural playmaking instinct to fine effect, and it’s fair to say his performance caught the eye of plenty of Man City supporters.

Frenkie de Jong has emerged as a figure of keen interest for the City fans in recent weeks, with his performances for both Ajax and the Netherlands hinting he is capable of replacing Fernandinho, but Ndombele’s display has given them plenty of food for thought ahead of the January window.

Whoever City decide to sign to replace Fernandinho will be required to perform in Guardiola’s most demanding and complex position and, on the evidence of his showing against the champions, it would appear Ndombele is well equipped for that challenge.

Here’s what the City fans had to say about Ndombele’s performance last night…
