These Newcastle United fans weren’t happy with Salomon Rondon’s performance vs Burnley

Newcastle United made it a hat-trick of victories at Turf Moor last night with a 2-1 win over Burnley.

It was a game which certainly lacked the level of quality which you would normally expect from two Premier League sides but it provided plenty of notable talking points to dissect.

An own goal from Ben Mee and a deftly executed header from Ciaran Clark put the Magpies in cruise control with just over a quarter of the game played, but a brilliant looping header from Sam Vokes got Burnley back in it just before the break.

Vokes’ strike proved to be the final goal of the game and the Toon Army went home with all three points.

Newcastle could have made things easier for themselves as Matt Ritchie somehow blazed wide when presented with an open goal, and Joselu hit the foot of the post with a first-time effort later on.

The Spaniard was introduced into proceedings in the 71st minute in place of Salomon Rondon after an ineffective display from the Venezuela international, which arrived as a bitter disappointment following his heroics against Bournemouth last time out.

In Rafa Benitez’s new-look system Rondon (valued at £11.7 million by Transfermarkt) found himself isolated in attack and he struggled to get involved in proceedings before he was withdrawn.

His lacklustre display was duly noted by supporters on Twitter, and they were quick to criticise him, citing his alarming lack of pace in the final-third and poor hold-up play as reasons to justify their criticism.
