Red Devils here in the Tavern are growing increasingly concerned with the manager’s tactics and decision making.
United had always been a well-organised machine, but in recent times, this just isn’t how its panned out for Mourinho and his side. Having started the season going unbeaten, they’ve suffered a run of some poor results as they endure defeats in 2 of their last 3 games.
Fans haven’t been short of moans and groans after the poor result away at Stamford Bridge, which saw Mourinho head back to his old dumping ground to set up for a draw. For a side that has the potential to win the League, questions are being asked as to whether the self-proclaimed ‘Special One’ and his tactics are actually suiting the rise of this United team.
But, with an important run of games coming up, with games against rivals City and a tough test against Arsenal, they’re going to need to get their act together. As we all know, in every side, you have those stragglers who rely an awful lot upon the players around them, people who aren’t pulling their weight or living up to expectations.
Having said that, these are the people who may be halting United’s progress, and here they are…
Victor Lindelof
The Swedish central defender joined in the summer from Portuguese side Benfica, arriving with a whole heap of promise and talent, the Red Devils were confident this man had the potential to be something special. Still, it didn’t turn exactly how they’d like it to have panned, as the central defender has struggled to get a run in the team.
When given the chance in his most recent game against Swansea, the Swede had a slightly lacklustre performance in which he repeatedly gave the ball away in what was a lack of decision-making skills.
So for someone so promising, he hasn’t yet lived up to his standards, so he really needs to put the miles in.
Marouane Fellaini
The Belgian aggressor has always been one of the most frustrating players in the Premier League, with bags of potential that was shown at Everton, he is yet to fully action upon this.
Many describe him as a marmite kind of player, having a love-hate relationship with the fans. Many believe he is too lazy and poses a sense of unreliability in both his performance and his aggressive manner, often liable to being sent off.
Having never reached the heights of previous years, the tall Belgian doesn’t seem to fit the United mould. In a team that isn’t built around Fellaini, you can start to see the consistency in tatters, as he continues to edge towards the exits.
As international duty is upon us, he’s going to have to buck his ideas up big time if Mourinho is to open his arms to a revival.
Matteo Darmian
The Italian has been utilized in a multiple of different positions so far this season, ranging from left back, right back and wing back. For a player that had such high prospects when joining the club, we haven’t really seen any sign of this filtering through.
For the duration of the season so far, he’s very limited as far as his game time goes. Having made 7 appearances, he is yet to showcase his talents after a disappointing performance in which Mohamed Salah ran rings around him during their draw against Liverpool.
So for a man with much to prove, the international break gives him a chance to progress and impress the gaffer.
