Liverpool showed the strength of their squad as they beat Tottenham in the EFL Cup, much to the joy of our local Reds fans here in the Transfer Tavern.
The Anfield club beat the Lilywhites as both sides made a decent amount of changes from their usual teams and it was the Reds squad who came up trumps over Mauricio Pochettino’s men.
Players like Trent Alexander-Arnold, who do not normally get to play, impressed – whilst a certain Daniel Sturridge hit a brace to see the club into the quarter-finals.
The Reds also gave run outs to the increasingly impressive Kevin Stewart whilst the ousted Simon Mignolet returned in goal with Loris Karius taking a rest after becoming the side’s number one goalkeeper.
It was evident, then, that Jurgen Klopp has got a fairly strong squad, not just first XI, in his midst but our landlord thinks it could be even better.
Here are two players currently out on loan from the club that should be in the senior squad, too…
Lazar Markovic

Markovic is currently on loan at Sporting Lisbon after only showing what he can do for the Reds in very brief spells.
When he has shown it, though, Liverpool fans have been impressed and given that he is still a young player – there’s a feeling that Jurgen Klopp could still work with him.
The Reds have one of the youngest squads in the league and Markovic could become a key part of that.
Jon Flanagan

Ask any Liverpool fan who they’d like to see make it most and the answer you’d get more often than not is Jon Flanagan.
At right-back, the Reds have a local lad ready made for the first team – but he currently finds himself out on loan at Burnley.
He’s shown before in his career that he can play at this level in a pressing game under Brendan Rodgers, and Reds fans in the Tavern would love to see him week-in-week-out in a red shirt.
