Things appear to be falling into place for Tottenham to mount serious PL title challenge

Tottenham supporters in the Transfer Tavern are very much looking to the 2018/19 Premier League season following the news that both Mauricio Pochettino and Harry Kane have penned long-term deals with the club.

Manager Pochettino took over at the North London outfit back in 2014 after impressing in a short stint at Southampton, and he has since transformed Spurs into one of the best clubs in the country with three successive top four finishes in the Premier League. And 24-year-old Kane has become one of the best strikers in world football in the last few years in bagging a stunning 140 goals in 213 appearances for Tottenham, with his tally of 41 this term his best season to date.

As such, there are many excited and expectant Spurs supporters in the Tavern at present, several of whom are likely to be further thrilled by recent reports suggesting that Manchester United are no longer targeting a move for left back Danny Rose.

And with the Red Devils having reportedly cooled their interest in Toby Alderweireld, alongside the recent contract extensions of Pochettino and Kane, things appear to be falling into place for the North London club to mount a serious Premier League title challenge.

Ultimately, while he didn’t enjoy the best of campaigns this time round, England international Rose remains one of the finest left backs in the country, with the 27-year-old playing a key part in helping Spurs finish third in 2016 and then second in 2017.

And given that Rose was part of a backline which, in both seasons, finished with the best defensive record in the Premier League, it’s clear how much the Englishman brings to Pochettino’s side both defensively and offensively, with the 27-year-old not only one of the best left backs, but also one of the best wing backs in England.

And while Ben Davies deserves great credit for his efforts this season, Rose is a better and more dynamic option at full back, and if he can re-discover his best form, perhaps during this summer’s World Cup in Russia, then Tottenham will only be stronger for it.

Significantly though, it looks as though United aren’t seeking to pursue their interest in the Spurs defender, which alongside their reported decision to cool interest in Alderweireld, suggests that two of their most influential defenders could well stay in North London.

Whereas a few months ago, it was looking almost inevitable that both men would be on their way out this summer, it’s plausible that now both could indeed remain, which can only be good news for Pochettino given how integral they have been over the years.

Add in the new deals for Pochettino, who many Spurs fans felt was on his way to Real Madrid following Zinedine Zidane’s surprise resignation, and indeed striker Kane, who many felt could follow the Argentine to the Bernabeu, and the future looks extremely bright at the North London club, both in the immediate and the long term.

And with the club reportedly closing in on an agreement with Alli, as well as seeking new deals with the likes of Christian Eriksen and Jan Vertonghen, the dismantling of this Tottenham team, something supporters of other clubs in Tavern felt was likely this summer, doesn’t appear to be happening.

And given how strong the starting eleven is at Spurs, a few more additions here and there to strengthen that further and indeed deepen the squad will only serve to seriously enhance their Premier League title credentials.

So while some of our resident Tottenham fans were approaching this summer with dread, things actually appear to be falling into place for the North London outfit to make an assault on the league title next season.
