Leighton Baines has been a long-standing member of the Everton first team, but is that about to come to an end? The Englishman’s role in the first team at Goodison Park is no longer as prominent as it once was, especially with the arrival of Lucas Digne.
Digne has come in and made an immediate impact in the Premier League, delivering consistently solid and exciting performances down the left-hand side of the pitch for the Toffees.
We recently made the case that Baines is on the verge of an exit, with his position in the squad no longer essential and his contract set to expire at the end of the season.
This is a view that is shared by many Everton fans, too, at least according to a recent poll. We asked them whether they think that Baines is on the verge of an exit, and in response, 63% of those polled have suggested that he is.
Baines will always be popular at Everton, and when he eventually leaves, it will be a very sad day for the club. He’s been one of the Premier League’s best defenders for the best part of a decade, but all good things must come to an end, and for Baines, the end is nigh.
He’s still got a lot to give, but at Everton? The Toffees would be wise to think twice.
Thoughts?
