After Everton cruised past Plymouth Argyle 4-0 in their penultimate Premier League Under-23 Cup group game at Home Park on Monday afternoon, many Toffees supporters have taken to Twitter to praise youngster Ellis Simms for his contribution to proceedings, with the striker netting a brace.
Simms, who has a grand total of 49 academy goals for the under-18s and under-23s (Transfermarkt), found the net either side of half-time to help Duncan Ferguson’s side on their way to sealing a passage through to the knockout rounds as Group B winners. Earlier goals from Dennis Adeniran and Ryan Astley had given the Toffees a comfortable 2-0 lead before Simms’ brace ensured their resounding victory, with the 19-year-old threatening a hat-trick but failing to convert further chances.
The Englishman headed a fine opportunity over the crossbar before later on striking the side-netting but that hasn’t stopped supporters from singing his praises on social media. A section of fans have said he should be fast-tracked into the first team sooner rather than later, even before the 4-0 rout away to Plymouth.

Simms has a big future imo.

Seen Simms play a few times for the 23s now and wouldn’t say he’s “a long way off” the first team. Of course there’s a lot more he needs to add to his game but see no reason why he wouldn’t be a good option to have on the bench next season

Gotta be knocking on the door now Simms. Superb for the 18s, now doing it for the 23s. Looks the part. Looked good in training with the 1sts too. Future is very bright

They need to get Simms out on loan to a championship side next summer. Kid might have it.

Ellis Simms is young and naturally has lot to learn. However, he is strong and and can scores goals and I suspect when he becomes an all round performer he will be playing for the first team.
