Newcastle United: Fans rage at Craig Hope tweet on Premier League ruling

Newcastle United, like every other club in the Premier League, will be getting themselves for the Premier League’s return next week.

After over three months without a ball being kicked in the top tier of English football, play will resume next Wednesday as Aston Villa take on Sheffield United at Villa Park. The Toon, meanwhile, will restart their own campaign against the Blades at St. James’ Park next Sunday.

In these difficult circumstances, the FA and the Premier League appear to have given sides more lee-way – for example, teams will be allowed to make five substitutions per match instead of three. However, as Craig Hope as revealed, clubs will not be allowed to resubmit their 25-man squads for the top flight despite them previously being submitted in February – before the pandemic.

This affects the Toon in particular, as it means that they will not be able to use left-back Paul Dummett, who hadn’t been registered a few months ago as it was thought he would miss the rest of the season through injury. He has now recovered, but cannot be registered.
