Punters here in the Transfer Tavern are counting down the days until the Premier League gets going again, after England suffered a 2-0 defeat to Spain on Friday, there isn’t really a lot for our punters to get excited about.
The Three Lions have to take on France on Tuesday, so all of us here in the Transfer Tavern are again fearing the worst, and simply can’t wait for the Premier League to return.
Indeed, England’s top league certainly hasn’t disappointed, and though Manchester City and Arsenal have been identified as the clear favourites so far, the likes of Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur will give us hope that this could be the greatest title race in a while. At the foot of the table, the action looks to be equally as exciting.
The varying performances of certain teams got us all thinking, who really hasn’t impressed so far since moving to England?
The likes of Anthony Martial and Kevin De Bruyne have been outstanding, but below are five names who simply have been below par so far.

Memphis Depay
A £25 million signing from PSV, the Dutchman arrived in Manchester with a lot of swagger and promise. However, bar the odd star display in the Champions League, the wide forward hasn’t lived up to the hype so far.
Memphis has been guilty of being cheap in possession, as well as being pretty lazy. His lack-lustre displays have resulted in him losing his place to Manchester United youth product Jesse Lingard.
Pedro
Pedro had a decent start to life in West London with a goal against West Brom, but since then there hasn’t been an awful lot to shout about from the Spanish winger, who arrived for around 21m from Barcelona.
Arguably, the only player in Chelsea’s attack who could come out with any credit so far is Brazil ace Willian. Chelsea fans will certainly be expecting for a lot more from Pedro, who so far has been pretty ordinary.
Florian Thauvin
Thauvin arrived at St James Park from Marseille for a whopping £12 million pound, but bar a superb display in the Capital One Cup against minnows Northampton, he has been worth about £12.
Thauvin’s career so far was summed up when he continued to turn up to games in a tuxedo, which arguably showed how poor his attitude has been. He is currently out of the Newcastle XI, and at this rate looks like he could be a big waste of money.
Xherdan Shaqiri
In the last few games, Shaqiri has started to show a lot more promise, but it has certainly been a bit of a slow start for the Swiss winger. In fairness to Shaqiri, since his arrival from Inter Milan, Stoke had started slowly and have only recently kicked into life.
Nevertheless, Stoke Fans would have expected a player of Shaqriri’s quality to be the matchwinner even when the whole side was playing poor.
Jordan Ayew
Jordan Ayew arrived from Marseille with his brother Andre going to Swansea. It is however Andre who has far out shined his brother so far, with Jordan Ayew putting in some very poor performances.
Ayew has only managed two goals for Villa so far, and Villa fans will be hoping the arrival of fellow countryman Remi Garde can turn his season round.
