Top five things Chelsea need to do to avoid a disastrous season

benitez.jpgSo much has happened at Stamford Bridge this season it is hard to know where to start.

Chelsea’s campaign has had a storyline that even Eastenders would surpass as ‘non-believable’, and took yet another twist in midweek following ‘interim’ (don’t call him that) manager Rafael Benitez’s outburst against Roman Abramovich and the clubs supporters who continue to criticise him.

Roberto Di Matteo’s sacking in November began it all, and since Benitez’ arrival the fans have made it perfectly clear they are unhappy, and the club have dropped out of the title race and the Champions League, as well as losing to Swansea City over two legs in the Capital One Cup semi-final, and returning from Japan without the Club World Cup trophy.

The reality of the situation now is that Chelsea face a real battle to finish inside the top four, whilst facing a tough trip to Manchester United in the FA Cup quarter-final stage, and have also scraped into the last 16 of the Europa League.

Whilst everything may appear grim, it is still a possibility Rafael Benitez could end his Chelsea career with a top four finish and two trophies. Stranger things have happened after all.

Here we take a look at five things Chelsea need to do to ensure the club avoids a disastrous season, and the club’s unhappy supporters have something to cheer come May.
