Tottenham fans are so right: Jan Vertonghen’s return could not have come at a better time

Tottenham Hotspur have had a real problem with injuries as of late, with a number of key men having been hit with having to spend time on the sidelines.

Despite a number of players having had to be absent, as well as the well-documented fact that Spurs failed to add a single player to their squad in the summer, Mauricio Pochettino’s side have started the Premier League season in their best ever way.

The Wembley Stadium outfit will resume their top-flight campaign this weekend when they host an unbeaten Chelsea team on Saturday evening and it appears as though they will have a timely boost ahead of the game.

Jan Vertonghen has been back training with the squad ahead of the London Derby and fans have shared their delight on Twitter with some positive reactions.

And, it would be difficult to argue against the fact that the enforcer’s return to the side is some great news for the Lilywhites.

Vertonghen has been absent from the side since the end of September with a hamstring injury and has had to miss nine games already, including tough fixtures in the Champions League.

Spurs have used the likes of Juan Foyth and Davinson Sanchez to partner Toby Alderweireld at the back, however, things have not always gone their way.

The young Argentine gave away two penalties on his Premier League debut at Wolverhampton Wanderers, whilst the Colombian has become the latest to hit the sidelines with an injury.

The experienced Belgium international is certainly a welcomed addition to the side, especially given the upcoming game against Chelsea and if he and his compatriot are at their best, Tottenham could have an excellent chance of beating the Blues and going above them in the table.
