There are some things that we shouldn’t have to see in football. One of those things happens to be the laissez-faire attitude when it comes to head injuries and concussion in football. Jan Vertonghen suffered a nasty collision on Tuesday, yet he was allowed to play on before almost collapsing, and as Spurs have given an update on him, the fans are just happy he’s alright.
An update on @JanVertonghen.#UCL #COYS

Vertonghen’s blow saw him collide with both Toby Alderweireld and Andre Onana, and whilst it was a complete freak accident the Lilywhites weren’t happy with the handling of the incident. Tottenham’s medical staff may have followed the guidelines, but when Vertonghen was seen unable to even stand as he was substituted it left a lot of the Lilywhites panicking over the health of their Belgian.
Whether the problem is in the guidelines themselves or the way that Tottenham apparently rushed through them is still up for debate, but seeing as the defender looks to be recovering well and the fact that attempting to play on hasn’t worsened his condition is all that matters. Spurs fans would love to see Vertonghen feature in the second leg against Ajax next Wednesday, but they can’t stress enough the importance of making sure he’s fully fit first.

Vertonghen’s safety and wellbeing has to come first, but the Lilywhites are desperate for him to make it back in time for next Wednesday in what promises to be their biggest game in decades.
