Tottenham Hotspur could be interested in signing Gent striker Jonathan David, if a report from Het Laatste Nieuws is to be believed.
The Belgian outlet suggests that Spurs sent one of their scouts to watch the 20-year-old in a Europa League game against Roma at the KAA Gent Stadium on Thursday (via Sport Witness).
David produced a strong display against the Serie A outfit, opening the scoring in the 25th minute by getting on the end of an inviting cross into the box (BT Sport).
Added to that, he also played two key passes, had one other shot on target, two shots off target and two shots blocked whilst also completing two successful dribbles and winning six ground duels (SofaScore).
The Spurs representative will therefore surely have been impressed with what he saw from the young Canadian, which could be enough to convince Jose Mourinho to make a move in the off-season.
They may face competition for his signature though, with Manchester United also sending someone to watch him against Roma according to HLN (via Sport Witness).
Signing David could be a smart move by Spurs, who should be prioritising signing another striker before the 2020/21 campaign.
Harry Kane is, of course, their number one centre-forward, but his absence due to a hip injury (tottenhamhotspur.com), combined with Son Heung-min now being ruled out with a fractured arm (BBC Sport), has left them extremely short upfront at the moment which could end up costing them a place in the top four.
This isn’t the first time that the England skipper has had problems either, he also missed 17 games last season with two separate issues (Transfermarkt).
Losing Kane for fairly long periods in a season is becoming a problem for the north London club, so it is, therefore, time that they invested in another striker who can provide a back-up option and also potentially add an extra dimension to their attack.
David has now scored 23 goals in 38 appearances this season in all competitions (Transfermarkt) and is still only 20, so there is still plenty of scope for him to improve. On paper, he looks like the perfect signing to come in, bolster their striking department and finally give them another option to Kane.
