According to a report by Allnigeriasoccer.com, Tottenham Hotspur boss Jose Mourinho has promoted previously unseen Spurs youngster Joshua Oluwayemi up to first team training and even included the goalkeeper as an outside member of his traveling squad to face Newcastle United - coming after an injury blow to fellow young shot stopper Alfie Whiteman.

Whiteman, who has undergone surgery after tearing his left meniscus, is expected to be out of action until May at least after the club confirmed his treatment recently (official).

Oluwayemi called upon by Mourinho

As a result, Allnigeriasoccer.com report that Mourinho has been left short in the goalkeeping department - with Paulo Gazzaniga also out on loan at La Liga side Elche for the second half of this season (official).

To shore up his numbers, the Lilywhites boss has now turned to Oluwayemi as another shot stopping option - promoting him to first team training and even including the 20-year-old as his 'twenty-first man' in the travelling squad which faced Newcastle recently.

Oluwayemi has never been seen in action in a senior Spurs match, but was on loan at Maidenhead United over the first half of this season before returning to his parent club in January, and it's clear he is highly rated by those close to the club.

Transfer Tavern take

Tottenham correspondent and reliable source of information, Alasdair Gold, heaped praise on Oluwayemi before the new year - calling him a 'very talented' young goalkeeper (Gold's YouTube channel via This is Futbol).

Given the negative nature of Whiteman's setback, one silver lining may be first team training action for Oluwayemi.

The starlet may benefit from being around senior members of the squad, especially in the goalkeeping department with experienced internationals like Hugo Lloris and Joe Hart.
