Tottenham Hotspur’s new era under Thomas Frank couldn’t have started any better.
Fresh off the back of last season’s Europa League triumph — their first trophy in 18 years — Spurs have carried that momentum straight into the new Premier League campaign.
They brushed aside newly promoted Burnley 3-0 on opening day before producing a tactical masterclass to stun Manchester City 2-0 at the Etihad.
But Frank isn’t content with just a dream start. With a long season ahead and the demands of juggling domestic and European football, he wants reinforcements.
And now, in a twist of fate, he’s eyeing up a defender from the very side Spurs just beat.
Spurs In Contact for Ake

According to a new report from GIVEMESPORT, Tottenham have opened talks with Manchester City over the possibility of signing Nathan Aké before the transfer window shuts.
The 30-year-old Champions League-winning centre-back, who has two years left on his £160,000-per-week deal, came on as a substitute during City’s defeat to Spurs at the weekend. Now, Spurs are eager to test the waters and see if Pep Guardiola’s side might be open to letting him go.
Sources suggest Spurs’ hierarchy held face-to-face talks over Aké while attending the clash at the Etihad, with the Dutchman high on their list as they scour the market for another defensive option.
Frank is said to be a huge admirer of Aké, viewing him as the perfect player to provide extra depth and competition alongside Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven.
And it’s easy to see why. Guardiola himself has described Aké as “incredible” and “fundamental” to City’s famous 2022/23 treble-winning campaign, when he featured 41 times across all competitions, including starting the Champions League final victory over Inter Milan.
Whether City will sanction a late-window departure for such a trusted figure remains to be seen — but Spurs have made their interest crystal clear.
