The Tottenham fans in the Transfer Tavern are hopeful that Mauricio Pochettino will be given the funds to invest in his squad in January. Spurs have fallen off the rails somewhat over the last few weeks in the Premier League, with the Lilywhites often struggling around this time of year.
Whether it’s down to fatigue or a simple lack of focus, one thing is clear: Pochettino desperately needs more bodies to help combat his side’s inconsistency. Both in attack and defence, the Lilywhites are looking light, and so January could prove to be a crucial month.
It’s no real surprise, then, that they’re beginning to be linked with players ahead of the re-opening of the transfer window. According to ESPN FC, Tottenham are keen on a move for West Ham star Manuel Lanzini, who has been a bright spark in an otherwise disappointing campaign for the Hammers. Significantly, the club are said to be ‘ready’ to make the move, hinting that a January approach could be forthcoming.
An attacking midfielder by trade, Lanzini has proven his worth as a solid competitor in the Premier League over the last few years, offering pace, technical ability and goals during his stint at West Ham.
At 24-years-old, he’s a player that is about to enter the prime of his career, and he’s a figure that the Tottenham fans in the Transfer Tavern would love to see at their club.
Landlord’s Verdict
It has been a tough season for West Ham, and the prospect of losing Lanzini is enough to leave our resident Hammers hiding behind their pint glasses. A move to Tottenham is an exciting one for a player, and so if this comes to fruition, the Argentine could even look to force a move through.
Tottenham certainly have a need for more attacking depth, with the likes of Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen seriously struggling in the Premier League at the moment.
He won’t be a cheap signing, but given his age and quality, he’d certainly be a worthy one. West Ham certainly won’t want him to go, though.
