Tottenham fans face a real fight to hold on to Jan Vertonghen with Serie A side Roma the latest club to take an interest in the Belgian international.
According to talkSPORT, the Italians will step up their pursuit of Vertonghen if Mehdi Benatia leaves the club with Manchester United among many teams rumoured to be interested in the Moroccan.
Vertonghen has admitted that he will consider his future in the summer after Tottenham failed to qualify for next seasons’ Champions League.
And Roma are now certainly a destination that would tick all of the 27-year-old’s boxes having qualified for the Champions League via their second-placed finish in Serie A.
But the deal could all depend on Manchester United’s pursuit of Mehdi Benatia.
Benatia has been a revelation in Italy this season following his summer move from Udinese and his commanding displays have even grabbed the attention of Barcelona and Bayern Munich.
There may be some conditions on Vertonghen’s move to Roma but there is no doubting that he will be definitley off.
And Arsenal Alan who is sitting in the corner of the pub this evening finds this hilarious and reminds the Tottenham locals that they have failed to qualify for the Champions League having spent more than £100 million.
Our Spurs contingent certainly aren’t laughing!
