It's clear to see where Tottenham Hotspur must strengthen this summer and signing Merih Demiral would certainly only enhance Spurs' defence as he is someone that could dominate strikers for years to come, according to Forza Italian Football editor in chief Conor Clancy.

It would be a slightly confusing decision if Juventus did sell Demiral as he and Matthijs de Ligt appear to be one of the best young centre back pairings in European football so that would set the Old lady up for several years.

It has been reported by trusted Spurs journalist, Alasdair Gold, that the club have been keeping a very close eye on the Turkey international, however it appears that despite not having Carlo Ancelotti as their manager anymore, Everton could still be in pole position to sign the defender.

If Spurs are to be considered genuine challengers for silverware, the top four and even the Premier League in the coming years, they must find a centre back that can organise and lead the team and that's something Demiral would certainly be able to do, according to Clancy when speaking exclusively to Transfer Tavern:

"Demiral is great, he's got everything and I don't understand why Juventus would let him go but maybe they will be forced into it for monetary reasons because he and De Ligt are a centre back pairing that could dominate European football for quite a while.

"He's really bright, very rarely gets caught out of position."

For the last 12 months, Tottenham have been playing with the likes of Eric Dier, Joe Rodon, Davinson Sanchez and Toby Alderweireld and none of them are world-class silverware winning defenders, despite the latter previously being one of the best in the league.

You just have to look at the impact both Ruben Dias and Virgil van Dijk have made to their respective teams. Having someone who can defend, organise and lead is so crucial now because of the number of world-class attackers in the Premier League and world football.
