Sky Sports have dropped another live transfer update on Newcastle United target Diego Carlos.

The Lowdown: Ongoing saga

Speaking on Wednesday’s edition of Sky Sports’ The Transfer Show, journalist Kaveh Solhekol revealed (via Sky Sports’ The Transfer Centre) live on air (17:07-17:08pm) that another unnamed club in the Premier League have bid for Carlos other than the St. James’ Park faithful, but the player would still like to move to the North East.

Nonetheless, the story seems to be moving on very quickly day by day, and it now seems as if the Tyneside outfit have serious competition on their hands for his signature.

The Latest: Deal after weekend?

Again, this time speaking on Thursday’s edition of Sky Sports’ The Transfer Show, Solhekol has revealed (via Sky Sports’ The Transfer Centre) live on TV (17:05pm) that Sevilla would like to keep Carlos for their upcoming game this weekend against Celta Vigo, and then a deal could potentially be done after.

He also revealed that the unnamed team in the top flight is based in London, and it is not West Ham United or Arsenal:

“The latest we are getting on Diego Carlos is that Sevilla want to keep him for their game this weekend (against Celta Vigo) but after that game, the expectation is that Sevilla will do a deal and then it’s up to the player where he wants to go.

“They have had an offer from Newcastle and they have been in the driving seat for the past couple of days, but there is also another Premier League club from London who have made an offer of around £30m for him.

“It’s then up to Carlos where he wants to go. If you try to work out who this club in London is, my information is that it’s not West Ham.

“David Ornstein at The Athletic says it’s not Arsenal, so that really leaves Chelsea and Tottenham.  I’m not in a position to say which club it is, but I know that Spurs have a long interest in the player.”

The Verdict: Exciting times

These are certainly exciting times for the Magpies knowing that they could sign a player of Carlos’ calibre soon.

They desperately need to being in a new central defender, given their poor defensive record in the Premier League so far this season compared to the rest of the league, and the Brazilian would be a great fit.

Speaking to Sky Sports live on Thursday afternoon (16:07pm) , South American Football expert Tim Vickery gave some insight into what the Toon Army could expect from Carlos should they sign him, claiming that he has ‘got a lot to offer’, is ‘very competitive’ and has ‘swagger and class’.

Nonetheless, his Sevilla side have the best defensive record in La Liga and his character and quality is exactly what NUFC need for a relegation battle, and so they need to put pen to paper on this deal as soon as possible.
