While Fulham and Cardiff City have struggled to adjust the high-tempo pace of the Premier League, Wolves have been impressive so far this season and look as though they have the ability to finish around mid-table this season.
Impressively, Wolves held an inform Arsenal side to a draw at the weekend. Arsenal had come off a superb performance against Liverpool last weekend and were going into the game on a 14-game unbeaten run.
However, against a well-coached and well-drilled Wolves side, Arsenal were lucky to come away with the win and should’ve really been beaten.
So far this season, Nuno Espirito Santo has often chosen to play the same side from week to week but recently, 18-year-old Morgan Gibbs-White has broken into the first-team squad and has looked very impressive in the cameos he’s played so far this season.
The England under-19 international was unlucky not to score against Arsenal and at just 18-years-old, he presents yet another top English talent to come through at a Premier League club.
A part of the England side that won the under-17 World Cup last year, Gibbs-White is in an ideal situation at the moment. He currently has two fantastic midfielders ahead of him in Ruben Neves and Joao Moutinho and is only going to improve his game as he learns from the two Portuguese midfielders.
At the moment, it looks as though England under-21 midfielder, Lewis Cook is close to breaking into the England senior squad and while he’s a very good midfielder, Gibbs-White presents an option that in the next few years could surpass the Bournemouth man.
There’s no doubt that Cook is an excellent passer but what he doesn’t have, is the ability with the ball at his feet that the Wolves academy man has. The 18-year-old is great at driving from deep but also has the ability to pick out a pass.
He may not have broken into the Wolves first XI just yet but what he does have, is plenty of potential and as we lead up to the Euros in 2020, he could turn out to be a dark horse in the squad.
