Introducing: Xherdan Shaqiri’s as Liverpool’s secret weapon

Liverpool take on Watford this weekend in what is a game The Reds must win in order to keep up the pressure on Man City in first.

Although Liverpool have made an unbeaten start to the season, Jurgen Klopp’s side hasn’t quite hit top form yet. At the back, they look a much better side but going forward they haven’t quite replicated the form they showed last year.

Both Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah have scored six goals this season which for any normal player would constitute a run of good form but for the Liverpool duo it’s not as high as they might have expected.

Moreover, Roberto Firmino has been completely out of form and looks as though he could need the help of a midfielder to bring him into play.

On international duty with Switzerland, Xherdan Shaqiri was the star of the show as his side came back to beat Belgium 5-2. Due to that form, Jurgen Klopp must start the attacker this weekend.

Signed for an apparent £13.5 million fee after triggering his release clause at Stoke City, it wasn’t sure how much of a role Shaqiri would play at Liverpool this season. Surprisingly, the attacker has played eight games in the league and has at times been invaluable to Klopp.

Following the sale of Coutinho, Klopp doesn’t really have anyone he can play in the number 1o role but in Shaqiri, he has a player that can play there but also on the wing.

So far this season he’s scored two goals while creating a further two and put in an incredible performance against Belgium.

He was instrumental in everything Switzerland did and he provided the crucial assist to level the game. Following that superb game, Klopp must play the former Basel man this weekend to get the best out of his attack.
