In what looks like one of the most compelling title races in years, the January transfer window looks even more vital than usual as clubs vie for the top spot.
Here in the Transfer Tavern we can hardly contain are excitement at the battle that is forming at the summit of the Premier League, with at least five clubs in with genuine shouts of lifting the trophy!
We’ve got fans of Arsenal, Liverpool, Spurs, Manchester City and Chelsea all thinking they can win the league here by the bar, whilst the Manchester United fans also reckon they shouldn’t be ruled out just yet.
The lead is switching between clubs at the moment but it is who is top after 38 games that matters and Arsenal will be hoping that it’s them.
They’ll need to make sure their squad is in as fine a shape as possible, then, once January is over and our landlord reckons these two ins and outs respectively would be just the solution…
In: Marco Reus
The German international would be a sensational signing in January and would surely enjoy linking up with Mesut Ozil with Arsenal.
Borussia Dortmund already look like they are going to be right up against it if they want to win the Bundesliga this season and Reus might just be getting weary of that.
Arsenal, meanwhile, are bang in the title race in this country and that could be the clincher.
Out: Mohamed Elneny (Loan)
Elneny saw the stakes raised when Granit Xhaka signed for Arsenal in the summer and it looks as though he’s hardly going to play for the club now.
Santi Cazorla will always start when fit whilst Francis Coquelin and the aforementioned Swiss international are ahead of him in the pecking order for that defensive role, so it looks as though his Arsenal days are numbered.
A loan move away may be the best port of call.
In: Alexandre Lacazette
The Frenchman could have come in the summer but didn’t but now with the title race looking like the closest one for years, Arsenal would surely benefit from having him now.
He has the ability to be world class on his day and would certainly make the Gunners one of the most feared in the division, whilst Alexis Sanchez would also be free to roam a bit more once again.
Out: Gabriel Paulista
Injuries and a lack of talent seem set to usher Gabriel out of the Arsenal door sooner rather than later.
Laurent Koscielny, Per Mertesacker and Shkodran Mustafi are all ahead of him in the pecking order at Arsenal and it seems as though Rob Holding would get the nod first, too.
This, then, means he might as well move on as soon as possible from the Emirates.
