‘Useless’, ‘Have a quiet word Rafa’ – Newcastle fans slam player after shocker against Man City

The Newcastle fans in the Transfer Tavern are feeling pretty glum today. It’s been a very tough season for the Magpies, and their poor campaign continued last night against Man City. The Citizens continued their stunning start to the season by picking up another win against Rafa Benitez’s side, leaving the Magpies in a poor 15th place in the Premier League.

That being said, there were a few positives that Newcastle can take from the display. A few individual performances, such as that of Jamaal Lascelles, impressed our resident Magpies, and the resilience shown from Rafa Benitez’s side to hold the game to 1-0 certainly deserves credit.

However, one thing that doesn’t deserve credit is Dwight Gayle’s decision to go down in the box in search of a penalty. Replays showed that the forward was clearly looking for the referee to blow his whistle, with the challenge on him not enough to take him down.

Diving has become an increasingly frustrating thing to see in the Premier League, and it’s fair to say that fans were not very happy with Gayle. Indeed, the anger is even coming from the Newcastle faithful, with fans over on Twitter rightfully angry with their striker.

With one fan requesting that the Newcastle boss has a word with the striker, take a look at a few other responses below…
