Our punters here in the Transfer Tavern love deadline day and it’s certainly stepping up a gear as we head into the afternoon.
According to Sky Sports’ Kaveh Solhekol on Twitter Scott Hogan is set to sign for Aston Villa from Brentford in a deal worth up to £15 million – subject to a medical:
Aston Villa agree deal to sign Scott Hogan from Brentford. Up to £15m. Hogan on way to medical. Rochdale get £3m (20% sell-on fee)

The Championship striker has been in superb form this season for the west London side and so for the Midlands club to get him in suggests that they’ve still got a fair amount of pulling power given they’re also in the second tier.
This marks Steve Bruce’s latest signing in what’s being tipped by many as the moment where the club really look to push on towards the play-off places this season.
But Villa were not the only club interested in Hogan with the likes of West Ham also keen as per The Sun.
It’s Villa Park where the forward is heading, though, and naturally Twitter has had a fair bit to say about the deal with plenty citing that Villa have won the race for him:
gutted really like this boy.

£15m for Scott Hogan. Questionable. Mind you, Villa are arguably a bigger club than West Ham. Confused why Hogan is staying in this division

@SkyKaveh @SkySportsNewsHQ @bobbysouthern1 West Ham done it again

Our landlord is certainly intrigued to see how Hogan does in the Championship for Villa now and thinks it could be the making of him under Steve Bruce.
