Vital Man Utd man could yet leave at the end of the season; no new deal on the table

The Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern are seriously concerned about this…

Despite starting the season as a secondary figure at Old Trafford, Michael Carrick has resumed his role as a vital cog in the Man Utd midfield machine in recent weeks – with the experienced England man proving too good to ignore for Jose Mourinho.

It came as no surprise to many in the Transfer Tavern when Carrick was brought back into the first-team fold at Old Trafford, given how important he has been in recent years – and a few of the more optimistic fans in the Transfer Tavern are expecting him to remain there for years to come.

There could be one pretty significant issue with that, though, given that Michael Carrick’s contract at Man Utd expires at the end of the season, and according to the Sun, he has yet to be offered a new deal.

The Sun are reporting that Carrick is now free to talk to other clubs, owing to Man Utd’s hesitancy to give the England veteran a new deal, and whilst he would reportedly prefer to stay at Old Trafford – the lack of progress on any deal has left figures at Utd ‘shocked’.

The Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern are pretty shocked too, with many arguing that Carrick has become the focal point of Mourinho’s side this season, even going as far as to suggest that the Manchester giants would struggle without him.

Of course, you cannot deny that Carrick has been mightily impressive since his return to the first team fold, having been a near constant feature under Mourinho over the last few months. Offering defensive stability alongside the offensive engagements of Paul Pogba and Ander Herrera, Carrick offers a real balance to the Man Utd midfield.

Our landlord thinks that a new deal needs to become an absolute priority for Mourinho…
