With Newcastle United looking to return to the Premier League as quickly as possible, the Toon-mad punters propping up the bar in the Transfer Tavern have been glued to the TV tonight.
The Magpies welcome the mighty Burton Albion to St. James’ Park tonight and need a win to return to the top of the Sky Bet Championship, as well as hold off Huddersfield Town.
Our drinkers let out an almighty roar when Matt Ritchie appeared to put the home side ahead with a penalty, though his conversion was quickly disallowed by referee Keith Stroud.
And nobody quite understood why. There’s been talk of a player encroaching the penalty area, as well as suggestions Ritchie tried to feint the ‘keeper, though either of those reasons surely should have resulted in a retake.
So, as you can well imagine, Stroud has invoked the ire of the Newcastle faithful on Twitter, and here’s a look at how they reacted.
Absolutely pathetic. https://t.co/2Zz3JoAE4R
