Week In Pictures – Oh, if only Alex McLeish!

mcleish.jpgA funny former headline emerged this week regarding Tottenham’s man of the moment Gareth Bale.

The Welshman is in the best form of his career and produced another stunning one man show on Monday night to earn his side three precious points against West Ham United at Upton Park.

Bale took his tally to fifteen for the season against the Hammers with another brace; the second being a spectacular last minute winner.

He has been strongly linked with a move to Real Madrid, in a deal that could cost the Spanish giants up to £60 million.

Staggering in itself, but even more so considering this story printed by the Daily Mail in October 2009, which claimed ‘flop’ Bale was on his way to Birmingham City in a deal worth just £3 million.

The story went on to explain how Bale had endured a ‘torrid time’ since his move from Southampton, and detailed how he had in fact only made one Premier League start that season.

Bale had indeed somehow managed to earn himself the reputation as Tottenham’s ‘cursed’ man, as the Welshman played a record 24 games without being on the winning side for his new team.

Oh how times have changed. Bale is reportedly worth £60 million nowadays, is in contention for another PFA Player of The Year award, and has been compared to the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.

Birmingham City fans allow yourself a moment to consider what may have happened had the club pushed through with that £3 million deal back in 2009…
