Of course, van Dijk is arguably one of the Premier League’s best defenders. Great with the ball at his feet, van Dijk would suit Chelsea’s defensive system perfectly. He is also excellent defensively, offering aerial dominance and an impressive knack of being in the right place at the right time.

Indeed, with John Terry’s contract expiring at the end of the season, van Dijk could well replace the Englishman – and this has delighted the Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern. Many, in fact, are ordering a new drink in celebration.

Van Dijk could well become a key member of the Chelsea first team, particularly in a back three with Cesar Azpilicueta and Gary Cahill.

Unsurprisingly, the Chelsea fans on Twitter have responded in a very similar fashion – with many exclaiming their delight at news of the reported move…
