West Ham United were drawn to face Gillingham away from home in the FA Cup third round on Monday (@WestHam).
The east London outfit will be heavy favourites to win the tie given that they are in the Premier League, whilst the Gills sit two divisions below them in League One.

However, that hasn’t stopped several Hammers fans from fearing that they could be at the wrong end of an upset when they visit Priestfield.
The pessimistic attitude is likely to be due to West Ham’s poor form in the league so far this season. Although they beat Chelsea on Saturday, they had previously gone seven games without a win, losing five of those (Transfermarkt).
Gillingham aren’t pulling up any trees, either. Indeed, they currently sit in 15th place in League One (BBC Sport). However, they beat Cardiff City in this competition last season who were still in the top flight at the time, so this tie could be a potential banana skin for Manuel Pellegrini’s side.
It appears that plenty of fans are fearing the worst ahead of their visit to Kent in January, here is how some reacted on Twitter following the draw…
That’s us concentrating on the league then 🤣👍🏻⚒⚒

On the plus side, at least Gillingham is not too far to travel back home from after the obligatory humiliating defeat ⚒️ #WestHam
