West Ham: Maxwel Cornet dealt ‘blow’ after not showing David Moyes ‘enough’

Goodison Park, Liverpool, Britain - September 18, 2022. West Ham United's Maxwel Cornet shoots at goal.

West Ham winger Maxwel Cornet had not shown David Moyes enough to be starting before his injury ‘blow’, according to journalist Paul Brown.

The Lowdown: Hammers flying high…

The Hammers have picked up some steady form again after a torrid previous few months with Moyes’ men picking up just one Premier League win throughout both August and September.

October has started off brightly for West Ham with three consecutive victories in all competitions and they could clinch top spot of their UEFA Europa Conference League group tonight with a win against Anderlecht in London.

For now, the pressure appears to be somewhat off Moyes in a welcome boost for the Scotsman.

Moyes is tasked with continuously weighing his options and calculating what exactly is his best West Ham eleven, coming after some real summer investment.

The Latest: Brown makes Cornet claim…

Commenting on this matter, journalist Paul Brown has now hinted at why Cornet wasn’t starting more matches before his recent injury.

West Ham latest news!

Speaking to GiveMeSport, the reporter believes he wasn’t doing ‘enough’ to impress Moyes and his latest setback comes as a ‘blow’ considering he cannot currently fight his way back in.

“It does seem at the moment that he’s being used, and is more likely to be used, in a kind of super-sub role to come on and try and change games or come up with that one moment of magic that swings something in difficult circumstances.

“It doesn’t look like he’s shown the manager enough to be a regular starter, so it’s a blow for him that he can’t prove it at the moment.”

The Verdict: Matter of time?

The former Lyon star has arguably shown glimpses of his real talent at West Ham and was very unlucky to have a dramatic late equaliser away to Chelsea ruled out through VAR.

West Ham boss David Moyes on the touchline

Hammers fans! Do you remember who scored your first goal of the 21/22 season?

He finished last campaign as Burnley’s top goal scorer in the English top flight and attempted their joint-highest rate of shots at goal per 90, highlighting his real threat going forward (WhoScored).

We believe it is only a matter of time before Cornet gets a run of starts with the only question being who he could replace.
