West Ham United: Came close to signing Ansu Fati during the summer

Fati

Ansu Fati has become a big name at Barcelona this season, but things could have been different for him.

West Ham United made a move for the 16-year-old during the summer and were close to completing it, as reported by Mundo Deportivo, via Sport Witness.

According to the report, the Hammers even got to the stage where they spoke to the player’s family, while Real Madrid, Sevilla and OGC Nice were among the other clubs interested in signing him.

Fati has managed 176 minutes of football for Barcelona this season across La Liga and the Champions League, having started twice and come on as a substitute twice, as per WhoScored.

He got his first goal for the club in a 2-2 draw against Osasuna having come on at half time, then went and marked his first start with a goal and assist against Valencia, helping Barca to a 5-2 victory.

He has also been fairly good with his general contribution in open play – especially when his age is considered – averaging 0.7 key passes and 1 dribble per game, while completing 82.1% of all the passes he has attempted.

Fati is looking like he will be a real talent, so it would have been pretty incredible if West Ham had been able to sign him.

However, with Barcelona playing him with such regularity already, it seems pretty hard to believe there was any chance of him leaving the club.

West Ham fans, how good a signing would Fati have been? Join the discussion by commenting below…
