West Ham United are plotting a move to sign Burnley left-back Charlie Taylor this summer, according to reports.
The Lowdown: Cresswell alternative
David Moyes has been targeting a new defender in this position for the majority of the window to provide some cover and competition for Aaron Cresswell.
The Irons had lined up a deal for Frankfurt’s Filip Kostic earlier in the summer, though that move has since fallen through, while a move for Emerson Palmieri seems to be chopping and changing every day.
Now, it looks as if the Scotsman has identified a fresh target for the role, and he’s looking much closer to home at someone who already has plenty of Premier League experience.
The Latest: West Ham considering Taylor move
TalkSPORT report that West Ham’s failed left-back attempts so far could ‘lead them to move’ for Taylor, with GSB believing that the Clarets ‘may be willing to sell’ their star before September 1.
It’s stated that whilst latest signing Maxwel Cornet can play as a wing-back, Moyes is keen to ‘use him further forward’ in a more attacking role.
The Verdict: Potential bargain?
As a result of Burnley suffering relegation, Vincent Kompany’s side might look at moving Taylor on to help with the club’s financial situation, meaning that he could be available for a decent fee.
The York-born talent, once dubbed ‘excellent’ and the Turf Moor ‘player of the year’ by sports journalist Josh Bunting, averaged 2.3 clearances and 1.9 interceptions per game for the Clarets in the top-flight last season, via WhoScored, and has 133 Premier League appearances to his name.
The Hammers will already have a strong relationship with Burnley thanks to negotiating the Cornet deal, and this could give them a huge advantage when it comes to winning the race for Taylor.
