West Ham: Irons ‘chuffed’ to have kept Craig Dawson

According to transfer insider Dean Jones, West Ham United will be ‘pretty chuffed’ that they haven’t had to sell Craig Dawson this summer.

The Lowdown: Twist in the tale

The 32-year-old looked set to leave the London Stadium after holding advanced talks with fellow Premier League side Wolves, with the Irons having begun negotiations to sign Southampton’s Jan Bednarek as a replacement.

However, the Poland international instead joined Aston Villa, meaning that the Hammers had no choice but to stop their own centre-back from leaving.

The Latest: Dawson staying at West Ham

Speaking to GiveMeSport, Jones claimed that David Moyes never wanted to lose Dawson and will therefore be pleased that he is now staying put.

“The club had held hope that Dawson could be talked into staying and they’re pretty chuffed that is going to be the case.”

The Verdict: Boost for Moyes

Whilst Dawson was denied of a move due to the Bednarek deal collapsing rather than the Irons being able to convince him to stay, it will still be a huge boost for Moyes.

The top-flight veteran was a rock at the heart of the backline last season, averaging 4.1 clearances and 1.5 blocks per game, alongside winning 2.8 of his aerial duels each outing, via WhoScored.

Can you name all of these forgotten West Ham flops...who is this Allardyce signing?

Dawson is an all-round, complete and experienced player, and it’s clear to see why West Ham will be buzzing to have retained his services, until January at least.
