The Toon Army in the Transfer Tavern are desperately hoping that Rafa Benitez will be given the funds to bring a prolific attacking talent to the club by the end of the January window.
So far this season, The Magpies have managed to find the back of the net just 22 times in their opening 24 fixtures in the Premier League, and their lack of potency in the final-third has provoked plenty of concern amongst the punters clad in black and white propping up our bar. Neither Dwight Gayle or Joselu have managed to convince Newcastle’s fan-base that they have the ability to fire the North-East giants to safety this month, whilst Aleksandar Mitrovic’s career at the club seems truly dead and buried.
Although it is impossible to know what goes on behind closed doors, it seems plausible that Benitez is on the hunt for a new striker this month who has the ability to score the goals needed to keep his side in the top-flight.
And according to The Daily Express, Benitez is indeed in the market for a striker, as the media outlet claim Newcastle are working on a deal to bring Ateltico Madrid star Kevin Gameiro to Tyneside.
A handful of The Magpies faithful are sceptical about the level of truth in the story considering Mike Ashley has demonstrated a reluctance to splash the cash in the past, but there are plenty of optimistic supporters who are praying that he will secure the signature of the French international this month.
