The Claudio Ranieri era at Craven Cottage got off to a good start over the weekend after Fulham beat Southampton 3-2 in an entertaining Premier League encounter between the two sides.
However, still at the bottom of the table with the division’s worst goal difference, there is still much room for improvement for Ranieri’s Fulham.
With January fast approaching, though, the transfer window could provide the west London club with the opportunity to achieve that.
And one player who could get the ball rolling is Danny Drinkwater from rivals Chelsea, a player Ranieri knows well from their incredible time together at Leicester City.
The duo, of course, were a part of the Leicester side who went on to win the title in the 2015/16 Premier League season, a season that helped Drinkwater earn a big-money move to Chelsea.
However, things have not gone to plan for Drinkwater who failed to win over former Blues boss Antonio Conte, while Maurizio Sarri appears to think even less of him as a player with the 28-year-old now not even capable of making the Stamford Bridge bench.
Considering that, an imminent move away from Chelsea looks all but certain with Fulham being just one club who would really benefit from having a midfielder of Drinkwater’s ability and experience in their ranks.
While it may not have worked out for the England international at Stamford Bridge, he is still a player who brings much to the middle of the park.
His energy, passing ability and overall experience would be massive in a team fighting for survival such as Fulham. And under Ranieri, a manager who got the best out of him, a move to Craven Cottage also makes a lot of sense from Drinkwater’s point of view.
There are likely to be a host of Premier League clubs interested in Drinkwater come January, but Fulham would be wise to put themselves at the front of the queue for his services.
