After Crystal Palace and Fulham completed another full gameweek on Monday Night Football yesterday evening, punters in the Football Transfer Tavern have been nattering all day regarding which wonder goal was indeed the best of the weekend.
The footballing gods were certainly shining down on neutrals everywhere with some sublime strikes this weekend, not only in England, but across Europe.
On Saturday afternoon, Arsenal’s Jack Wilshere prodded home a sublime opening strike against Norwich City after some incredibly neat and fluid interplay between the England man and Olivier Giroud in which the duo cut through the Canaries backline with seemingly impossible ease.
That was it. Arsenal fans by the bar were calling it the ‘goal of the season’ so far, if not the entire 2013/14 campaign!

But then came the turn of Monday Night Football and a London derby between Crystal Palace and Fulham that many Arsenal and Chelsea supporters in the tavern were calling drab and indeed ignored in favour of some snooker instead!
This was of course until Cottagers midfielder Pajtim Kasami’s equalising 19th minute blockbuster that not only cancelled out Adrian Mariappa’s opener but has since been billed by Fulham manager Martin Jol as a greater strike than Marco van Basten’s famous volley for the Netherlands at Euro 88. High praise indeed – and from a Dutchman as well!

We’ll let you, the punters; decide whether the Swiss midfielder’s strike was better than the Dutch football icon’s effort.

One thing was for sure however. Arsenal’s Jack Wilshere – who had thought he had scored the goal of the season – had to concede that his strike was bettered by Fulham’s Kasami after openly admitting this was the case to Match of the Day pundit Gary Lineker on Twitter.

If all of this wasn’t enough, there were still some incredible strikes elsewhere including a truly mesmerising effort emerging from Europe and Ligue 1 in particularly.
We all knew that Zlatan Ibrahimovic was good following that sublime overhead kick for Sweden against England last year but the mercurial striker has now followed that effort up with a strike we can only describe as a backheeled, overhead, scissor kick and even then, that doesn’t do it justice.
Playing in a clear home banker for Paris Saint-Germain against a strangely camouflaged Bastia outfit, the Swedish icon poked home from an impossible angle as he incredibly altered the position of those beanpole limbs in kung-fu Ibra fashion.

Incredibly, high profile team-mate Edinson Cavani also had his say in the match with an incredible finish of his own to remind the Parc Des Princes faithful that he is just as big a star as Ibrahimovic.

Now as you can appreciate, these are four scintillating goals emerging from one gameweek alone but there is one more effort for your eyes to appreciate, and it came from a far more modest and unlikely source.
Footage from a Barnsley Under-18 match of all places was the source of a simply incredible team goal that has been doing the rounds on our tablets in the tavern. The incredible one and two touch passing shown by the Tykes’ youngsters’ means fans of the Oakwell side must be licking their lips at what the future may bring!

Let’s see now. One fo the goals was a lash at the ball which flew into the back of the net. The other was an intricate exchange of amazing one touch back heels whch left the whole of the Norwich defence standing in awe and amazement. Of course Wilshere’s actual goal was not the better strike but a goal is not just about the final strike in my opinion. Not really a contest. And if it is about the role of the person who actual puts the ball in the back of the net then Bergkamp scored three better in the same month!
kasami’s goal was not a lash at the ball you could not of seen it.you need to take you’re arsenal blinkers off.kasami ran from the halfway line controlled it with his chest and hit the ball with his weaker foot all with out slowing down his run and hit the perfect shot . if it was an arsenal player you will be saying it the best goal ever but you haven’t scored a goal as good.keep dreaming one day ?
Football is a team sport and Wilshere’s goal was a team goal. Kasami was amazing but Wilshere’s goal wins.
