News just in that Avaram Grant is very close to making a return to Stamford Bridge.
It is not believed that he will be appointed manager. The suggestion is that he will operate in the Ray Wilkins role. The difference being that Grant is truly regarded as ‘one of the gang’ whereas Ray was not and consequently accused of ruffling feathers shortly before being suddenly sacked.
Grant has maintained a healthy relationship with the ‘top table’ at Stamford Bridge and it is thought any appointment won’t have exactly come out of the blue. Grant’s stock has not been devalued in Chelsea eyes – if anything he was thought of sympathetically after having to work in such appalling conditions at Upton Park.
Who would he be working beneath? That name our source doesn’t have but only the naive would suggest a name other that of Abramovich.
