Our Newcastle fans here in the Transfer Tavern really are on edge at the moment after the story that broke yesterday involving HMRC.
Indeed, any set of fans here by the bar would be feeling a little nervous with such a story emerging about their club but the Magpies are feeling even more tense thanks to the fact that they’ve only just got promoted.
Certainly, they wanted to celebrate things all week after beating Preston to get back into the top flight but this news really has put a spanner in the works.
Now, of course, all anyone can do is wait to see what happens next but fans on Twitter have certainly been having their say after the club released a statement on the situation yesterday.
Here, then, is the best of the reaction:

@NUFC Did they arrest the bloke who writes the statements as well?

@__RG27 @nufc3000 @NUFC And seized his computer. Might as well have sent that by smoke signal from his cell.

@Danielle92_ @NUFC It’s the most non-statement in the history of official statements.

@NUFC Harry Hill out

@NUFC I think that’s the most pointless statement ever
— JackBryan8 (@Jackbryan27) April 26, 2017
@NUFC who wrote that? Theresa May?…
