Do Not Sell My Personal Information

Why didn’t you sell? – 2 players Chelsea should have sold in January

The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern were surprised at how many players were sold in January…

Whilst the Blues have often focused their January business on signing players, Antonio Conte shifted his tactics this season, with a focus on clearing out the deadwood within his squad being the primary objective.

The likes of John Obi Mikel, Branislav Ivanovic and Oscar both left, whilst young forward Patrick Bamford was also moved on permanently, signalling a period of change at Stamford Bridge.

In their place, players like Nathaniel Chalobah and Ruben Loftus-Cheek appear to have been promoted into more of a senior role, and that can only be a good thing for the Blues.

However, whilst Chelsea sold a number of players, there are still more than a few within the Blues’ squad that should have been moved on – with Antonio Conte spearheading a period of change at Chelsea.

With that said, here are 2 players Chelsea should have sold in January…

Kenedy

Kenedy looked good during his preliminary spell with Chelsea, and a loan to Watford this season was expected to be the making of him.

However, for whatever reason, Walter Mazzarri didn’t opt for the Brazilian on a regular basis – and his career has stalled ever since.

He is a decent player, but given the strength in depth at Chelsea, he isn’t likely to find his place back in the team once again.

The Brazilian is talented, but Chelsea isn’t the place to showcase that.

Todd Kane

Seeing Todd Kane depart Chelsea will be a sad day when it comes, given that he has been at Chelsea for his entire career.

However, the fact of the matter, as is so often the case at Stamford Bridge, is that Chelsea have spent millions signing some of Europe’s best players – leaving youngsters like Kane with very little chance.

What’s more, he has struggled with injury issues during his career – and that has really stalled his development.

At 23-years-old, he needs to be playing every week – and he isn’t going to play at Chelsea.
