Newcastle United supporters in the Transfer Tavern are eagerly anticipating the 2018/19 Premier League season, what with their team seeking to improve upon their impressive tenth place finish last term.
Rafa Benitez’s side deserve great credit for sealing a top half finish upon their return to the English top-flight, having won the Championship title little over 12 months earlier. Yet based on their limitations over the course of the most recent campaign, it’s pretty clear that reinforcements will be needed this summer if the former Chelsea and Liverpool boss is to indeed take the Magpies forward, and perhaps back to their former glories in years to come.
Thus, there are many excited Newcastle fans up and down the country, several of whom are likely to be intrigued by recent reports suggesting that Fulham are close to a £20 million move for striker Aleksandar Mitrovic.
The 23-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan at the Cottagers and played a key part in helping Slavisa Jokanovic’s men win promotion to the Premier League, netting 12 goals in 20 appearances for the West London club.
And Fulham have been linked with making his loan move permanent for much of the summer, with reports recently suggesting that a deal believed to be worth £20 million could be close to completion.
And with Newcastle potentially set to receive a decent sum for the Serbia international, they must now target these TWO stars in a bid to reinvest that £20 million…
Tottenham striker Vincent Janssen has endured a testing time in English football since his move to North London back in 2016, to the point that he was shipped out on loan to Fenerbahce for the entirety of last season.
The Netherlands international has managed just two goals in 25 Premier League games for Mauricio Pochettino’s men, but has shown glimpses of promise during his time at the club to suggest that he has it in him to go on and become a quality centre forward.
Obviously, playing second-fiddle to Harry Kane at Spurs is no easy task, but the likelihood of regular football at Newcastle could well play to Janssen’s strengths in getting the best out of the Dutchman, just like he did in netting 31 goals in 49 games of AZ earlier in his career.
It has been a tricky few years for Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge, with the England international struggling for regular football at Anfield pretty much ever since Jurgen Klopp took over as manager back in 2015.
In fact, the 28-year-old was even shipped out on loan to West Brom back in January in a bid to re-discover his best form to help him earn a place in the England squad for the recent World Cup, only for Sturridge to manage just six appearances for the Baggies, failing to net in any of them.
Nonetheless, it’s clear that when fully fit and firing, there are few better strikers in the Premier League than Sturridge, and with it unlikely that he’ll earn regular football at Liverpool this term, a move to St James’ Park could be exactly what he needs to get his career going again.
And were that to happen, Benitez’s side could reap the rewards of such investment.
