Many Wolverhampton Wanderers fans were not impressed with defender Willy Boly during his side’s lunchtime Premier League clash against arch-rivals West Brom, despite him scoring the go-ahead goal just before half-time.
However, that influence wasn’t for the right reasons. Boly lurched a leg out from inside the box and caught Baggies striker Callum Robinson on the edge of the box.
Despite controversy over whether it was indeed on the line or outside the penalty area, referee Michael Oliver pointed to the spot and VAR official David Coote agreed – as Matheus Pereira gave West Brom the early initiative in the tie.
Should Willy Boly have started vs West Brom?
Supporters were critical of the challenge that the Ivory Coast international made, with some questioning Nuno’s decision to play him so soon – we suspect they may have changed their tune since though, as Boly turned home Wolves’ second goal just before the break.
Fans fume at Boly challenge
“Wolves have rushed Boly back into action and he’s clearly unfit and lacks sharpness he’s going to make mistakes #wwfc”
“Gifting them a goal man. Debatable whether it’s even a pen but why does Boly need to dive in there?”
“Quite the welcome back for Willy Boly eh”
“Boly makes such rash decisions”
“Great comeback Boly.”
“So stupid Boly”
