Just after Christmas, Aston Villa looked like genuine title challengers. Unai Emery’s side had surged into contention after winning nine consecutive Premier League matches, establishing themselves among the division’s standout teams.
Since then, however, momentum has slowed. A combination of injuries and inconsistent results has dented their push, and while they remain in the top four, their position is far from secure as rivals continue to close the gap.
Despite that dip, Villa have received a timely boost off the pitch, with one of their key players making a firm decision regarding his future at the club.
Tielemans to Stay at Villa
Youri Tielemans has decided he wants to remain at Aston Villa this summer, turning down the possibility of a lucrative move to Saudi Arabia.
According to Football Insider, the Belgian midfielder has attracted interest from multiple Saudi Pro League sides, but is not prepared to leave European football at this stage of his career. Instead, he is keen to continue competing in the Premier League and remain part of Emery’s project.
Tielemans — labelled “fantastic” by his manager — believes he still has plenty to offer at the highest level and is committed to helping Villa push forward in the coming seasons.
The club share that stance. Villa are planning further investment in the squad ahead of next season and have no desire to part ways with a player they view as an important figure in midfield.
The 28-year-old has been sidelined since late January with an ankle injury, and his absence has coincided with a downturn in results, with Villa losing four of their last seven league matches. His importance to the side has arguably been highlighted during that spell.
Although Villa could make a sizeable profit on Tielemans — having signed him on a free transfer in 2023 — there is currently little appetite from either side to pursue a deal.
With interest from Saudi Arabia growing, Tielemans’ decision offers Aston Villa a significant lift at a crucial stage of the season. Keeping hold of experienced, high-quality players will be vital if the club are to maintain their progress under Emery and continue competing at the top end of the table.
