Everton are hoping that Marco Silva has what it takes to improve the Toffees and turn them back into European challengers.
After a disappointing season last time out, Everton turned to the former Watford manager to get them back on track for a strong finish in the Premier League.
That ambition has been made easier as a number of top players have arrived at Goodison Park this summer, meaning a shot at Europe might just have been a lot easier.
One of those players coming into the club is Chelsea’s Kurt Zouma, a young French centre-back who would hope to be a regular in the starting line-up.
The only problem with that is Michael Keane is also wanting to contest for a spot at centre-back, which is likely to be next to Yerry Mina, who also arrived this summer.
Considering Keane’s debut season with Everton last season, it may be harder for him to retain a place in the starting line-up under Marco Silva seeing as he disappointed, looking dashed of his confidence he had when with Burnley.
The Englishman has gone from a wanted man to a player who seems likely to make a mistake. Understandably, players can struggle when moving to a new club but if Everton want to qualify for Europe, they cannot afford to be ill-disciplined in defence.
Zouma, on the other hand, was one of few players who could hold their head high after Stoke’s relegation last season, where he spent his time on-loan.
The Potters could have been a lot worse off without the Frenchman, who was a strong and robust defender at the heart of defence.
Everton will be hoping Zouma can again enjoy a good personal season and help lead the Toffees on towards Europe.
