Gary Cahill’s move to The Emirates seems to be getting closer by the day.

The arrival of David Wheater at The Reebok from Boro gives every indication that Owen Coyle has backed down from his initial demands of £17M for the player.

Cahill could do a good job for the Arsenal but it was optimistic of Coyle to ask so much. Cahill was suggested a few weeks ago as a possible Chelsea target. I think this was largely a combination of Chelsea being in such obvious trouble and perhaps the player’s agent drumming up additional interest.

With Thomas Vermaelen and Sebastien Squillaci both injured this could be just the ‘shot in the arm’ that Arsene needs.
