Steve Bruce is keen to bring Peter Crouch to Sunderland meaning that Asamoah Gyan might head the other way. Redknapp is keen to add to his attacking options at Tottenham this summer and will demand the Ghanaian in exchange if Sunderland come knocking for the lanky England international.
Sunderland struggled in the latter half of last season after selling their goal scoring machine, Darren Bent to Aston villa who scored the majority of their goals. The Sunderland boss in now looking to massively add to his squad this summer and the forward line is his priority.
After not only losing Darren Bent in January, Danny Welbeck has now returned to his parent club Manchester United. Therefore, the only natural striker left is Asamoah Gyan but any attempt to partner him with the big Peter Crouch looks to be scuppered by Spurs as they will demand Gyan in any possible deal to help fire them back into Champions League football next season.
Former Wigan boss, Bruce has been handed a transfer war chest by the Sunderland board in order to challenge for a Europa League spot next campaign. The Black Cats have already started off their spending spree with a triple bid for Manchester United players Darron Gibson, Wes Brown and John O’shea and now they are turning their attention to the goal scoring side of things.
If a bid for Peter Crouch is made then the likelihood is that Gyan could be heading the opposite way as both the player and Spurs would be keen to make a deal. It looks as though Redknapp might even move for the striker even if they don’t act on their Crouch interest as the Ghanaian is disappointed by the departures of fellow Ghana internationals, John Mensah and Sulley Muntari.
Asamoah Gyan has aspirations to play at the highest level and if a move to White Hart Lane materialises then he could be challenging for major honours in years to come.
