Contests between the London duo are often hugely competitive and feisty affairs, and the clubs’ rivalry is arguably the most fiercely fought in the Premier League.
That makes it all the stranger, then, that reports in the Daily Mail have suggested that the Arsenal brass think that Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino would be a perfect fit at the Emirates.
Whilst Arsenal are unlikely to make a move, the idea has got our landlord thinking – and he reckons that a move to Arsenal might actually make a lot of sense for Mauricio Pochettino.
With that said, here are 2 clear reasons why it’d make sense for Pochettino to jump ship and join Arsenal…
Consistency
Over the last few years, Tottenham have often blown hot and cold.
Last season, for example, they managed to really impress and they almost pushed for a famous Premier League title – but they were unsuccessful in doing so. Likewise, they have looked good so far this year, but their performances in recent weeks have shown that they don’t have the consistency to be as successful as many in the Transfer Tavern would like.
Arsenal, meanwhile, have been very consistent in recent years – regularly finishing in the top four and moving past the group stages in the competition. Now, of course, their trophy haul hasn’t been great – but could Pochettino be the perfect man for the job?
Arsenal are a good, consistent side at present – and Pochettino might be the man to give them that extra dose of expertise and brilliance to take them one step beyond.
Funds
One big criticism that many in the Transfer Tavern have had lately is with regards to Tottenham’s transfer policy.
Very rarely is the Spurs brass willing to invest heavily, and when they do – typically the players they sign aren’t good enough. The signings of Sissoko and Janssen haven’t worked out – and that has been the case for the majority of the big signings at Tottenham.
Arsenal, meanwhile, have shown a tendency to splash the cash in recent years, with huge signings like that of Sanchez, Ozil and Xhaka all having a significant impact at the club.
Tottenham’s financial issues are only going to get worse as their stadium development continues, and Arsenal have already completed that process. In many ways, Arsenal are a few years ahead of Tottenham in terms of growth – and Pochettino could be keen to skip over the developmental process as he looks to secure his first Premier League trophy.
