It’s been quite a strange season for the Tottenham Hotspur fans in the Transfer Tavern, who’ve watched their side fail to pick up on the momentum they rode last term. 

The collapse that saw them finish third in a two-horse race last season looks to have created a hangover at White Hart Lane, though the north London locals propping up the bar have urged for a sense of reality.

Champions League qualification remains a realistic possibility on Hotspur Way and some astute reinforcements in the New Year would surely help further that dream.

Their summer business is yet to really convince anyone, with the likes of Moussa Sissoko and Vincent Janssen struggling to perform since big money moves.

If Spurs really are going to keep up with England’s elite, Daniel Levy must loosen the purse strings slightly and allow his Argentine coach the funds to truly improve, even with the stadium move in mind.

IN: Ross Barkley

Playing like a man without a position at Everton, Ross Barkley has been linked with a move to Tottenham.

The England international is certainly a huge talent, though is suffering in a manner akin to Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in terms of consolidating a frequent berth.

Considering Mauricio Pochettino’s track record in developing bright, young English talents, the 23-year-old would be a huge signing.

OUT: Tom Carroll

The arrival of Victor Wanyama, coupled with the emergence of Harry Winks, has seemingly all but ended Tom Carroll’s time at Tottenham Hotspur.

Though he was used as an impact substitute often enough last term, the midfielder cannot buy a game these days as more dynamic and reliable options emerge from the ashes of his career.

Linked with a move away, the 24-year-old surely has no future left.

IN: Wilfried Zaha

Another top English talent touted for a move to Spurs is Wilfried Zaha.

Punters in the Tavern laughed at the suggestion the Crystal Palace ace could move in the summer, though his form this season has made him one of the most exciting wingers in the Premier League.

Causes so many problems in the final third, Zaha would give Pochettino a totally different dimension going forward.
