The resident Toffees in the Transfer Tavern are beginning to enjoy life under Sam Allardyce this season.

Everton’s season was clouded with uncertainty and speculation for much of the current campaign following the dismissal of Ronald Koeman, but the ship has been steadied on Merseyside since the appointment of Allardyce in November. Under the leadership of Big Sam, Everton have turned their form around and began to climb up the table away from the relegation zone after spending the majority of the campaign.

Now that Allardyce has had ample time to assess the strengths and weaknesses of his squad, he will be working in conjunction with the Everton hierarchy to establish a list of transfer targets for the upcoming January window.

Considering neither Dominic Calvert-Lewin or Oumar Niasse have firmly cemented their place as Everton’s first-choice striker just yet, Allardyce should be hoping to bring another centre-forward to the club next month.

And Everton may not need to look too far away from Merseyside for their next forward acquisition, as Liverpool’s Daniel Sturridge could well be tempted into a shock loan move to The Toffees.

The England international has fallen behind Roberto Firmino and Dominic Solanke in the pecking order at Anfield this season and consequently he has been limited to just 5 league starts.

Considering the World Cup is nearly 6 months away, Sturridge will be concerned with his lack of first-team football, so he will surely be hoping to move away from Anfield in January in a bid to salvage his England career.

With that being said, here are two more reasons Everton should sign Daniel Sturridge in the January transfer window.

Need for a striker

At just 20-years-of-age, Dominic Calvert-Lewin has done incredibly well to lead the line for The Toffees for the majority of the season so far, but he really could do with further support up-front.

Oumar Niasse has played second-fiddle to Calvert-Lewin this season, even though his record of just 84 minutes per goal suggests he should be first-choice at the club.

Either way, Allardyce only has these two options to call upon up-front, and his shortage in this department could leave him desperately short in the event of injuries or suspension to his current strike force.

Sturridge’s introduction to the squad will increase competition for places and give Allardyce a greater variety of options moving into the second-half of the season.

Sturridge needs to kick-start career

Sturridge was once one of the hottest strikers in the Premier League, however, due to a succession of injuries his career has gone into decline in the last three years.

It may take some time for him to return to his best form, but what he needs more than anything right now is a consistent run of games in the Premier League.

If he stays at Liverpool, it is extremely unlikely that Klopp will ever hand Sturridge the opportunities that he needs to resurrect his career in the English top-flight, so it is imperative that he moves away from Anfield sooner rather than later for the sake of his career.
