The Toffees have had a mixed season so far, with Ronald Koeman’s management style proving inconsistent in the Premier League since he moved to Goodison Park.
That is not to say that the side has not impressed, because they are still in European contention this season, but it is clear that Koeman has a lot of work to do if he wants to take his side to the next level.
The Dutchman clearly recognises that, as reflected by the fact that the Toffees are reportedly keen on landing Abel Hernandez ahead of next season.
The forward, who currently plays for Hull City, has done well since moving to the Premier League, and whilst a few of the Everton fans in the Transfer Tavern don’t want to see him come to Goodison Park – our landlord thinks that it could be a great deal.
With that said, here are 2 reasons Everton should go back in for Abel Hernandez this summer…
Lukaku Replacement?
Romelu Lukaku isn’t going to stay at Everton forever, and it is looking increasingly likely that he could depart in the summer.
This season has been one of his best campaigns yet, and for a player of his quality, he simply needs to be playing at the highest level. Everton don’t look set to make the jump into the top 4 quite yet, and so a move might be his only option.
Step in Abel Hernandez. The forward could be considered a good replacement for Lukaku, and whilst the Belgian is undoubtedly a better player – Hernandez could definitely do a job for Ronald Koeman.
Goalscoring Record
Abel Hernandez isn’t often mentioned in the same breath as Romelu Lukaku, and whilst that might be with good reason in part, it also doesn’t tell the whole story.
Hernandez is, undoubtedly, one of the better forwards in the Premier League, and his goalscoring record goes a long way in proving that.
He has scored close to 30 goals domestically since joining Hull City in 2014, which is a pretty decent record when you consider that the Tigers haven’t exactly got one of the better squads in the league.
You would expect his record to go up when playing alongside better players, and Koeman could be the manager to take him to the next level.
